  • Amsoil Introduces NGK Spark Plugs and Plug Wire Sets

Starting on June 1, Amsoil began offering the entire line of NGK spark plugs and wire sets. NGK is the world's largest OEM supplier of plugs and wires, supplying products to all of the major automotive manufacturers. NGK offers a complete line of applications for autos, trucks, powersports, racing, and small engines.

NGK offers several types of plugs. Each in an array of sizes and heat ranges. The top of line plug is the Iridium IX. This plug features an extra fine wire electrode made of an alloy of iridium. I use these plugs in my Corvette to replace the factory platinum plugs and they are capable of the factory recommended 100,000 mile maintenance interval.

Next is the V-Power plug. These are a high performance plug with lower ignition voltage requirements and better fouling resistance. I use these in my Mazdas and replace them every couple years.

The NGK Standard plug is still a superior spark plug and is used in thousands of different OEM applications.

NGK spark plug wire sets offer exact OEM fit, with unparalelled construction quality and function. I have used these wires in my Mazdas for many years and have never had a failure.

Finally, the Power Cable line of plug wires is a premium quality ultra-low resistance wire with a silicone jacket to minimize voltage leaks and resist heat. These are a great compliment to the Iridium plugs in high performance applications.

To find the proper fitment of NGK plugs or wires for your vehicles, consult the Online Application Guide. I have found these plugs and wires to be rather hard to find locally. For my Mazdas I have been buying them online from a Mazda dealer. Now we can get them from Amsoil, and as a preferred customer or a dealer, you pay the dealer price.

Have You Read the Motorcycle Oil Study?

Last year Amsoil released a very comprehensive study of motorcycle oils, comparing all of the top oils on the market and subjecting them to an exhaustive battery of tests. Not surprisingly, Amsoil's Motorcycle oils came out on top in almost every category. The skeptical among us will say the study must not be very objective if Amsoil conducted it, but if you read the report you'll find it's pretty objective and I think the findings are legitimate.

If you missed it before, check it out at this link. Look for the link to the G2156 Motorcycle Oils White Paper.

I sell almost as much motorcycle oil as I do automotive oil. Amsoil is wildly popular among the biker crowd.

Factors Having an Impact on Extended Drains

from an article by Ed Newman, Amsoil Director of Advertising
One of the changes affecting the quick lube industry these past 10 years is the lengthening of oil change intervals. When Ford this spring announced that it was stretching drain intervals for a few key models in 2007 and their entire 2008 line, the news caught peoples' attention even outside the industry.

    What's Going On?
In this article I want to outline some of the issues that oil companies must take into consideration when making oil change recommendations.

Manufacturers' Recommendations play a role in determining oil drain intervals. Oil change recommendations for American-made cars have run from 5,000 to 10,000 mile intervals in recent years. The longer drains today imply better quality. The ambiguous definitions surrounding "normal" and "severe" service create an atmosphere of uncertainty that makes consumers insecure about extended oil service.

Maintenance schedules for other parts of the vehicle have an impact on oil drain recommendations. A service regimen that dovetails oil change intervals with other maintenance checks is sensible.

Consumer wants include convenience, cost/value, clean environment, and friendly service. While cost is of high importance to many, others are willing to pay more for convenience and performance. For an increasing number, impact on the environment is a preeminent concern.

Lubricant performance capabilities are an important factor when establishing drain intervals. At a certain point in time, depending on the quality of the oil, the oil breaks down and the additives are depleted. It is no good suggesting drain intervals beyond the service life of the lubricant.
